Killing Blockbuster
I think it is funny to see two stories about Blockbuster in my feed within a few hours What Killed Blockbuster and Who really killed Blockbuster. Both of these articles have a idea behind them, Blockbuster was so strong and powerful, it should have not died. I think this such a misreading of business. A business can be powerful in many wrong ways. In 2007 a CEO told me that once DVDs decline, it will have a big changes to businesses. It has to do with the increasing per unit cost when you make fewer DVDs. He was right with his prediction.
I always thought Redbox is the death nail for Blockbuster, but the decline was there for a while.
