Legal to Lie

Should it be illegal for political ads to lie? It is an interesting question. Most people would say of course it should be illegal for political ads to lie. Brooks Jackson on Factcheck.org makes the case that it is hard to make lying ads illegal. This is a case of common sense not being enough to cover the situation. I can see someone trying to limit political speech because they say it is a lie. It is up to the public to find out the truth.
