Half Mast

"The flag must always half mast here", I thought as I waited for the priest to speak.

You taught me the flag must go all the way up before coming half way down. You made us stand for the Star Spangled Banner, even if it was just on TV. Every time the flag passed in a parade we also stood, even if others did not. You bought new flags when a president you campaigned against was supposed to come to Warminster because you understood respect. You made sure our town had a Memorial Day parade because others gave the full measure.

Now you will stay where the flag is always half mast.
