Colin Meloy Sings

On Friday I went to see Colin Meloy at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. Colin is the lead singer for the Decemberists. He is doing a short solo tour. One of the advantage of being close to San Francisco is that most acts stop here on their tour. I was in line behind a bunch of people from Sacramento.

Laura Veirs was the opening act. She is a singer songwriter from Seattle. She did something on stage that I have never seen before. She had a sampler on stage. While she was singing she would sample her own voice. This gave her the chance to loop her own voice four or five times. She was singing along with her own looped voice. This was pretty cool. This set her apart from the typical singer songwriter.

Colin Meloy put on a great show. This should surprise no one. He has a natural stage presence. He has the whole thing where he is funny, witty, and just a little geeky all at the same time. It is the perfect combination to many indie rocker hearts melt. He also put on a show that was musically very good. He picked songs that sound great with him alone. He was worth the price of the ticket.
