Thanksgiving with the family

I had a good time at Thanksgiving dinner. Ruth made me laugh so hard I was crying. It is good to laugh that hard. I know that you only laugh that hard when you are not expecting it. It was a good dinner and I am happy that I got to share it with my family.

I realize that explaining family is like explaining a joke. You can share the idea with another person. They might be able to see how the punchline works. They might be able to tell you something about how they would feel about the joke. But unless they are there at the moment the joke is told, they will never really understand what it is like to hear the joke. This is what family feels like to me.
