The meaning of parental rights

There are some interesting cases to be decided as the Court considers gays' parental rights. With or without same sex marriage being legal there are some things to be decided here. I am not sure the law has kept up with these ideas at all. That is why it is going to the courts. How the babies are born makes it even more complicated.

Medical advances further muddy the waters on the traditional definition of parent. For instance, two women can become mothers of a child by one partner donating eggs to the other. And by using a surrogate mother and artificial insemination, two men can become parents together.

I wonder if the outcome of these court cases will inform the debate around same sex marriage. I am interested to see what the outcome will be. Does anyone think it will go all the way to the US Supreme Court?
