Long Gone

At the end of the show Homicide: Life on the Street the lieutenant is in the afterlife with two of his detectives. For the afterlife they are sitting in the squad room playing cards. They are talking about the afterlife. One of the detectives says, "once you are gone, you are long gone." That idea helps the lieutenant deal with his situation.

I think about this scene all the time. The idea of being long gone seems to fit the way I see time. I have worked with a lot of people over the last three years. I feel that once they leave, the might as well be long gone. The world of work just moves at such a fast speed. It seems that people who are gone move away at such a fast speed. I am starting to worder if this is true for more of my life.
